Cricket Writer Special Edition Weekend Quiz – April 1st 2017
Answer: The 3 part answer from Kersi Meher-Homji is as follows:
1. Murali Vijay
2. KL Rahul (KL are the initials of KL Saigal)
3. ARRAPWRRKB Amunugama, a Sri Lankan cricketer who never played a Test. He has most initials, according to Wisden 2004.
His full name? Amunagama Rajapaske Rajakaruna Abeykoon Panditha Wasalamudiyanse Ralahamilage Ranjith Krisantha Bandara.
Friends and scorers called him Ranjith. Wisden reported him taking 12-91 for Tamil Union v. Sabastianites in 1990-91. But then he had only three initials. Every year he seemed to add an initial! He represented Kurunegala Youth at FTZ Sports Complex, Katunayake in Sri Lanka on 14 and 15 February 2003 and captured 4-39 and 4-34 against Antonians as his team won by an innings.
Winner: Kersi and I are overwhelmed by the number of people who had a go at this quiz and separately sent in their appreciation, even if they did not post answers. This was not an easy one to get completely right without cross checking (which we are so glad you did not) but the answer straight off the block from Abhishek Mukherjee was simply stunning and testament to his deep love and knowledge of the game and it’s history.
Kersi sends a special pat on the back to Abhishek all the way from Sydney with his incredibly long arms!
